First Bully Walk

Yesterday (Sunday 1/30) my husband and myself joined about twenty other Pit Bull owners here in Portland Oregon to have our very first Bully Walk.  I had been wanting, along with my husband, to get involved with something in support of Pit Bulls in our area for some time now and this event gave us our first opportunity.  Well our first opportunity beyond raising the very best ambassador for the breed we possibly could in our Maximus (Max for short) and our Odin (half Pit Bull Terrier).  That is Max (dark brown and white) and Odin (brindle) in the forefront who were on their best behavior as always.  Everyone else's dogs behaved admirably and I was so proud of the lot!

People have a tendency to believe the news media and since one can rarely find any positive information about Pit Bulls on the news media in this country the only way to show how great these dogs are is to take the dogs to the public.   We had a very positive reaction from most people on the streets of downtown Portland as our group walked the sidewalks of our beautiful city.  All of the dogs behaved wonderfully, just as we'd expected them to, and I think we gave people a very positive image of Pit Bulls.  It is wonderful to know that so many people who own dogs of this breed take it seriously and are responsible dog owners.  It is the owner after all and not the breed of a dog that determines what kind of dog it is, how dangerous it is and what the likelyhood is that it will be a danger to other living things.

We must and we will continue to present our dogs to the public and show everyone the true nature of our dogs as well as our true nature as Pit Bull owners.

I so look forward to next month when I hope word will have spread and our numbers will have grown.  Hopefully we will catch the eye of some local news media so we can get a bit of air time to get the word out that Pit Bull's are not dangerous dogs.
